Tell your readers which pictures came from AI.

You mark a picture once in your media library. From then on WordPress adds a
small notice to that picture wherever it appears on your site — no code, no
editing every post by hand.

01 What this plugin does

One mark on the image, a notice everywhere it is shown

This is what your visitors see. The notice sits along the bottom edge of the picture itself.

The important idea is that the mark belongs to the picture, not
to the post. You decide once, in the media library, that a given photo was made
by AI. Every post, page and archive that uses that photo then shows the notice
automatically.

That way the same picture can never be labelled on one page and unlabelled on
another — which is exactly the kind of inconsistency a disclosure rule is meant
to prevent.

Why on the picture, not under it

Many themes crop pictures to a fixed shape. Anything placed below the picture
would be cut off and your notice would silently disappear. Sitting inside the
picture is the one position that survives every layout.

02 Set up in three steps

From installed to working in about two minutes

  1. Switch the plugin on

    Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins and click
    Activate under AI Image Notice. If it is not in
    the list yet, use Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin
    and choose the file ai-image-notice.zip.

  2. Mark a picture

    Go to Media → Library, click the picture, and tick
    AI generated in the panel on the right. That is the whole
    action — there is no save button in this view.

  3. Look at your site

    Open a post that uses that picture as its featured image. The notice should
    be along the bottom edge. If you use a caching plugin, empty the cache first.

Good to know

Out of the box the notice appears on featured images only.
Pictures placed inside your text are covered too, but that has to be switched
on — see Where the notice appears.

03 Marking your images

Everything happens in the media library

One picture at a time

In Media → Library, click any picture. In the panel on
the right you will find the checkbox:

Many pictures at once

Switch the media library to list view (the icon at the top left). You then get
three extra tools:

  • An AI column showing AI generated or Not AI generated at a glance. Click the column heading to sort by it.
  • A dropdown to filter: All images, AI generated, Not AI generated.
  • Bulk actions Mark as AI generated and Remove AI generated mark — tick several pictures, choose the action, click Apply.

The filter is the quickest way to audit yourself: choose Not AI generated
and scan for anything that should have been marked.

Marking new uploads automatically

If your AI tool always names its files in a recognisable way, the plugin can mark
new uploads for you. See Detect on upload in
All settings explained. It is off by default, and it
only ever looks at the file name.

04 Where the notice appears

Open Settings → AI Image Notice. Two settings decide
where marked pictures get their notice.

Setting What it covers
Featured images only The large picture at the top of a post, plus the thumbnails in your blog list, archives and related-post boxes. This is the default.
Featured images and all other attachment images The above, plus pictures your theme pulls from the media library elsewhere on the page.
Image blocks Pictures you insert into the text of a post or page with the image block. Switch this on if you illustrate articles with AI pictures inside the body text.

Check your gallery plugin

Image blocks are switched off by default for a reason: lightbox and gallery
plugins sometimes rebuild the picture markup and can react badly to an added
notice. Switch it on, then click through a gallery page once to confirm all
is well.

05 Overriding a single post

When one post needs to differ

Occasionally a post needs a different answer than its picture gives. Every post
and page therefore has a small override panel that applies to
that post’s featured image only.

In the block editor, open the sidebar and choose the Post tab —
not the Block tab — then scroll to AI notice:

Use the image setting

Never show the AI notice

  • Use the image setting — the normal case. Whatever you ticked in the media library wins.
  • Always show the AI notice — useful when you know a picture is AI-made but have not marked it in the library yet.
  • Never show the AI notice — hides the notice on this one post.

Use “Never show” sparingly

This is the only way to hide a notice on a picture you have marked, and nothing
on the post list shows that you did it. If a picture genuinely is not AI-made,
it is better to untick it in the media library instead.

Using the classic editor? The same choice appears as a small checkbox directly
under the Featured image box.

Leave the stylesheet on

It is loaded only on pages that actually show a notice, so it costs you nothing
elsewhere. Switched off, the notice may end up hidden behind a cropped picture.

Wording and language

Change the sentence under Notice text whenever you like — it
applies immediately to every marked picture. Some alternatives that work well:

If your WordPress runs in German, the plugin speaks German by itself: the admin
labels change and the default notice becomes
“Bild mit künstlicher Intelligenz erstellt”. You can check or change the
site language under Settings → General → Site Language.

English and German are included. If you need another language, your developer can
add it — the plugin ships with a translation template.

If something looks wrong

I marked a picture but no notice appears

Work through these in order:

  • Is the picture used as the featured image? If it sits in the body text, switch on Image blocks.
  • Does the post have its override set to Never show the AI notice?
  • Do you use a caching plugin or server cache? Empty it.
  • Is the picture actually the one you marked? Themes sometimes use a different size or a placeholder.
The notice covers part of my picture

That is intentional. Placed below the picture it would be cut off by every
theme that crops images to a fixed shape. If it disturbs an important part
of a photo, crop the photo a little taller so the bottom strip is less busy.

I cannot find the “AI notice” panel while editing a post

The sidebar is probably showing the Block tab. Click
Post and scroll down. If it is still missing, open the
three-dot menu at the top right → Preferences and check that the
panel has not been hidden.

The notice appears twice on the same picture

Your theme is probably adding the notice itself as well. Ask whoever built
your theme to remove one of the two — the plugin’s own help file explains
where to look.

I want the notice bigger, or in a different colour

Give it a name of your own under Extra CSS class, then have your
designer style it in Appearance → Customize → Additional CSS.
You do not need to edit any plugin file.

Switching it off again

Deactivating the plugin stops all notices immediately. Your
markings stay where they are, so switching it back on restores everything.

Deleting the plugin also keeps your markings, because
On uninstall is off by default. Only switch that on if you really want
every marking and setting removed for good — it cannot be undone.

For your developer

Themes that build their own image markup bypass the standard WordPress filters.
For those, print the notice directly:

Du markierst ein Bild einmal in der Mediathek. Ab dann ergänzt WordPress
überall dort einen kleinen Hinweis, wo dieses Bild erscheint — ohne Code und
ohne jeden Beitrag einzeln zu bearbeiten.

01 Was dieses Plugin tut

So sehen es deine Besucherinnen und Besucher. Der Hinweis sitzt am unteren Rand des Bildes selbst.

Der entscheidende Gedanke: Die Markierung gehört zum Bild, nicht
zum Beitrag. Du entscheidest einmal in der Mediathek, dass ein Foto von einer KI
stammt. Jeder Beitrag, jede Seite und jedes Archiv, das dieses Foto verwendet,
zeigt den Hinweis dann automatisch.

So kann dasselbe Bild niemals auf einer Seite gekennzeichnet sein und auf einer
anderen nicht — genau diese Uneinheitlichkeit soll eine Kennzeichnungspflicht ja
verhindern.

Warum auf dem Bild und nicht darunter

Viele Themes beschneiden Bilder auf ein festes Format. Alles, was unterhalb des
Bildes steht, würde abgeschnitten — der Hinweis wäre unbemerkt verschwunden.
Im Bild zu sitzen ist die einzige Position, die jedes Layout übersteht.

02 In drei Schritten startklar

In etwa zwei Minuten einsatzbereit

  1. Plugin aktivieren

    Öffne Plugins → Installierte Plugins und klick bei
    KI-Bildhinweis auf Aktivieren. Steht es dort noch
    nicht, lade es unter
    Plugins → Installieren → Plugin hochladen mit der
    Datei ai-image-notice.zip hoch.

  2. Ein Bild markieren

    Geh zu Medien → Mediathek, klick das Bild an und
    setz rechts das Häkchen bei KI-generiert. Mehr ist nicht
    nötig — in dieser Ansicht gibt es keinen Speichern-Knopf.

  3. Auf der Website nachsehen

    Öffne einen Beitrag, der dieses Bild als Beitragsbild verwendet. Der Hinweis
    sollte am unteren Bildrand stehen. Falls du ein Caching-Plugin nutzt, leer
    zuerst den Cache.

Gut zu wissen

Ab Werk erscheint der Hinweis nur bei Beitragsbildern. Bilder
mitten im Text lassen sich ebenfalls kennzeichnen, das musst du aber erst
einschalten — siehe Wo der Hinweis erscheint.

Zeigt auf der Website einen Hinweis auf dem Bild an.

Viele Bilder auf einmal

Schalte die Mediathek oben links auf die Listenansicht um. Dann stehen dir drei
zusätzliche Werkzeuge zur Verfügung:

  • Eine Spalte KI mit KI-generiert oder Nicht KI-generiert. Ein Klick auf die Spaltenüberschrift sortiert danach.
  • Ein Auswahlfeld zum Filtern: Alle Bilder, KI-generiert, Nicht KI-generiert.
  • Die Mehrfachaktionen Als KI-generiert markieren und KI-Markierung entfernen — mehrere Bilder anhaken, Aktion wählen, übernehmen.

Der Filter ist der schnellste Weg zur Eigenkontrolle: Wähl
Nicht KI-generiert und prüf, ob etwas dabei ist, das eigentlich markiert
gehört.

Neue Uploads automatisch markieren

Wenn dein KI-Werkzeug seine Dateien immer erkennbar benennt, kann das Plugin neue
Uploads für dich markieren. Siehe Beim Hochladen erkennen unter
Alle Einstellungen erklärt. Die Funktion ist
standardmäßig aus und prüft ausschließlich den Dateinamen.

04 Wo der Hinweis erscheint

Beitragsbilder immer, andere Bilder auf Wunsch

Öffne Einstellungen → KI-Bildhinweis. Zwei Einstellungen
bestimmen, wo markierte Bilder ihren Hinweis bekommen.

Beitragsbilder und alle anderen Bilder aus der Mediathek Zusätzlich alle Bilder, die dein Theme an anderer Stelle aus der Mediathek holt.
Bild-Blöcke Bilder, die du mit dem Bild-Block mitten in einen Beitrag oder eine Seite einfügst. Einschalten, wenn du Artikel im Fließtext mit KI-Bildern bebilderst.

Galerie-Plugin prüfen

Bild-Blöcke sind aus gutem Grund standardmäßig aus: Lightbox- und
Galerie-Plugins bauen den Bild-Code manchmal um und reagieren empfindlich auf
einen zusätzlichen Hinweis. Schalte die Option ein und klick danach einmal
durch eine Galerieseite, um sicherzugehen.

05 Einzelnen Beitrag abweichend regeln

Wenn ein Beitrag eine Ausnahme braucht

Manchmal soll für einen einzelnen Beitrag etwas anderes gelten, als das Bild
vorgibt. Jeder Beitrag und jede Seite hat deshalb ein kleines Feld, das
ausschließlich für das Beitragsbild dieses Beitrags gilt.

Öffne im Block-Editor die Seitenleiste und wechsle auf den Reiter
Beitrag — nicht Block — und scroll zu

Einstellung des Bildes verwenden

  • Einstellung des Bildes verwenden — der Normalfall. Es gilt, was du in der Mediathek angehakt hast.
  • KI-Hinweis immer anzeigen — praktisch, wenn du weißt, dass ein Bild von der KI stammt, es aber noch nicht in der Mediathek markiert hast.
  • KI-Hinweis nie anzeigen — blendet den Hinweis für diesen einen Beitrag aus.

„Nie anzeigen“ sparsam verwenden

Das ist die einzige Möglichkeit, den Hinweis bei einem markierten Bild zu
unterdrücken — und in der Beitragsliste ist später nicht erkennbar, dass du das
getan hast. Wenn ein Bild tatsächlich nicht von einer KI stammt, entfern das
Häkchen besser in der Mediathek.

Du arbeitest mit dem klassischen Editor? Dort erscheint dieselbe Auswahl als
kleines Kästchen direkt unter dem Feld Beitragsbild.

Stylesheet eingeschaltet lassen

Es wird nur auf Seiten geladen, auf denen tatsächlich ein Hinweis erscheint —
anderswo kostet es dich nichts. Ausgeschaltet kann der Hinweis von einem
beschnittenen Bild verdeckt werden.

Den Satz unter Hinweistext kannst du jederzeit ändern — er gilt
sofort für alle markierten Bilder. Bewährte Alternativen:

Läuft dein WordPress auf Deutsch, spricht auch das Plugin von selbst Deutsch: Die
Beschriftungen im Adminbereich wechseln, und der voreingestellte Hinweis lautet
„Bild mit künstlicher Intelligenz erstellt“. Die Sprache deiner Website
findest du unter
Einstellungen → Allgemein → Sprache der Website.

Deutsch und Englisch sind enthalten. Für weitere Sprachen liegt dem Plugin eine
Übersetzungsvorlage bei, die deine Entwicklerin oder dein Entwickler nutzen kann.

Hilfe

Wenn etwas nicht stimmt

Ich habe ein Bild markiert, aber es erscheint kein Hinweis

Geh der Reihe nach vor:

  • Wird das Bild als Beitragsbild verwendet? Steht es im Fließtext, schalte Bild-Blöcke ein.
  • Steht beim Beitrag die Ausnahme auf KI-Hinweis nie anzeigen?
  • Nutzt du ein Caching-Plugin oder einen Server-Cache? Leer ihn.
  • Ist es wirklich das markierte Bild? Themes verwenden mitunter eine andere Größe oder ein Platzhalterbild.
Der Hinweis verdeckt einen Teil meines Bildes

Das ist beabsichtigt. Unterhalb des Bildes würde er von jedem Theme
abgeschnitten, das Bilder auf ein festes Format beschneidet. Stört er an
einer wichtigen Stelle, schneid das Foto etwas höher zu, damit der untere
Streifen ruhiger ist.

Ich finde das Feld „KI-Hinweis“ im Editor nicht

Vermutlich zeigt die Seitenleiste gerade den Reiter Block.
Klick auf Beitrag und scroll nach unten. Fehlt es dann
immer noch, öffne oben rechts das Drei-Punkte-Menü →
Einstellungen und prüf, ob das Feld ausgeblendet wurde.

Der Hinweis erscheint doppelt

Dann fügt dein Theme den Hinweis vermutlich zusätzlich selbst ein. Bitte
die Person, die dein Theme erstellt hat, eine der beiden Stellen zu
entfernen — die Hilfedatei des Plugins beschreibt, wo zu suchen ist.

Ich hätte den Hinweis gern größer oder in einer anderen Farbe

Vergib unter Zusätzliche CSS-Klasse einen eigenen Namen und lass
ihn unter
Design → Customizer → Zusätzliches CSS gestalten.
Eine Plugin-Datei musst du dafür nicht anfassen.

Wieder abschalten

Deaktivieren beendet alle Hinweise sofort. Deine Markierungen
bleiben erhalten — wenn du das Plugin wieder einschaltest, ist alles wie zuvor.

Löschen behält deine Markierungen ebenfalls, denn
Beim Deinstallieren ist standardmäßig aus. Schalte das nur ein, wenn
wirklich alle Markierungen und Einstellungen endgültig verschwinden sollen —
das lässt sich nicht rückgängig machen.

Anhang

Für Entwicklerinnen und Entwickler

Themes, die ihren Bild-Code selbst zusammenbauen, umgehen die üblichen
WordPress-Filter. Dort lässt sich der Hinweis direkt ausgeben:
